I enjoyed this as well. I have a place I visit for quiet. It's an upwards of 4 hours away, but well worth the trip if you want solitude or clean recordings. The road is at least 30 yards away and there's only traffic on it every few hours and almost no aircraft fly over. The actual middle of nowhere.

But I also enjoy the sounds of traffic. I've taken to recording them as well.

I agree with wixel. I enjoyed the video...in my case probably more than the music. I think I wanted something different from new Oval and as such can't open up to it. It'll probably grow on me.

SELF PROMOTION / 9_1 by Patrick Norris
« on: July 01, 2010, 02:06:19 pm »
hello,

I've got a self-released album coming July 21st entitled "9 Variations" and have offered up the first track "9_1" for free download.

the release date has been pushed back. sorry for any inconvenience.

It's an experiment in reflection / memory of a specific person, times, and places. 2 Simple generative piano lines created using classic tape recording / manipulation provided the source material which was then reinterpreted and layered with field recordings to represent specific moods / times of day / places.

Have a listen.

Thanks.

ART / Video of the Nashville Flood, May 2.
« on: May 07, 2010, 11:41:08 am »
This video was sent to me by a friend and shows the flooding just a few blocks from my apartment. I got very lucky. Apologies if you've seen it already. I think it's very well shot, and particularly liked the lens selections and color.

I returned to this after being in Orange Beach, AL and watching the preparation of the beaches for the impending oil landfall. It's strange to think that the storm system responsible for the flood is keeping the oil from reaching my birthplace.

It's been a disturbing few days.
