THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Distribution
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:53:17 am »
Thinking aloud. Bear with me.

Restarting my label, very softly. Was dealing with a few reputable distributors in the past, but I'm curious if the means for physical distribution is still a dire necessity to reach an intended audience? It seems many labels now offer with the purchase of a physical copy of a record, a high quality digital copy as a pacification device while your purchase is being shipped.

I realize some labels just don't want to deal/don't have the resources/time to deal with direct purchasing, but it seems as if the number of distributors shrink...their reluctance to take on new labels grows, to say nothing of logistics/potential struggles getting paid.

Curious to hear others experiences/commentary.

Just bought a digital copy of the new Cyclo on R-N. It's driving my pugs up the wall.

THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Re: Promotional Work
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:12:17 pm »
Anyone perchance have a list of reputable journalists they send promos to for press consideration?  Been out of that mode so far long now that many of the people I used to send stuff to have moved on. But now I'm ready to send stuff out again, and was wondering if anyone had a list of quality scribes who go beyond one sheet regurgitation?

Thanks in advance!

Barbara Streisand/Barry Gibb "Guilty"

This is not a joke. Just listen to the duet "What Kind of Fool" and you'll see why. I promise.
