LESS IS MORE
12k announces online store

by Susanna Bolle

Since its inception in 1997, the Brooklyn-based label 12k has made a name for itself releasing a series of exquisitely crafted, truly innovative, minimal electronic music by artists such as Shuttle 358, Richard Chartier, Nosei Sakata and label head Taylor Deupree. Because 12k eschews normal distribution channels and (with one exception) limits releases to 500 copies, fans of the label's particular/granular brand of fragmented minimalism often buy their releases directly from the label via mail order, making the relationship between producer and consumer especially intimate. Last week the label announced that it would have an online shop up and running by mid-September, making it easier for you to get your fix of the labyrinthine structures and microscopic sounds of 12k. The timing couldn't be better given the label's hotly-anticipated upcoming releases, which include: Komet, Rausch; Shuttle 358, Frame; as well as Richard Chartier's Series, the first disk on 12k's sister label, the ultra-minimal LINE.
